Ali groaned, the curve of Sam's fingers still inside her, her entrance still clasping and releasing Sam's digits. She hung on to the feeling for as long as she could, thinking of Sam's cry of pleasure as she'd climaxed, thinking of the rough need in that voice as Sam had bucked and thrust underneath her. She'd thought Sam exhausted until she'd been roughly pushed away, pushed back onto the mattress, and then Sam's fingers and tongue had begun their work and she'd known that Sam was far from exhausted.

Slowly, slowly she drifted back down to earth, the light-headed, drowsy feeling of finality swirling around her. Sam withdrew her fingers, slid back up the bed toward her. There was a slow, soft kiss and Ali could taste herself on Sam's lips.

“Not bad,” she said as Sam settled beside her.

“Not bad?”

“Well,” she shrugged. “For a first time, you know. It wasn't bad. I mean, we all get better with practice and...”

It took Sam that long to realize that she was joking, to start to laugh and threaten to tickle her. Ali clamped her arms down, not letting Sam's fingers achieve their aim.

But, Ali noticed, Sam hadn't denied that there would be time to practice. She hadn't said that this was a one time only thing. In fact, quite the opposite, Sam looked more comfortable, more relaxed than she'd ever seen her. That hair was no longer sleeked back, it was ruffled, a lock trailing down over her face. Her body was compact, as powerful as Ali had suspected, but soft as well, welcoming somehow.

Sam settled down, snuggling against her and Ali felt a warmth inside. Not lust, well, some lust, but more than that. A sense of comfort. She could get used to this. She wanted to get used to this. It was an odd feeling, she couldn't remember ever having felt... comfortable afterward. Usually she was already planning how to escape, or how to get the woman out of her house so she could get a good night's sleep. But she wanted Sam to stay.

“Thank you,” she mumbled.

“No. Thank you,” said Sam sleepily.

“I mean thank you for staying even though I know there's a million reasons not to,” Ali said.

And how to explain. How to explain that she'd like Sam to stay for longer than just tonight? That she'd like to build something, like to try this, that she wanted more? She swallowed. Just come right out and say it. That's what her mother would have told her to do, 'you don't get if you don't ask,' she'd say.

“Sam, I, uh...”

Sam twitched and then shot up in bed, one hand pinning Ali's shoulder to the bed.

“What?”

“Shh!” hissed Sam.

Ali frowned and was about to say something when she too heard what had alerted Sam. A soft crunching. Almost as if... As if someone was walking close to the windows, as though feet were trying to walk quietly on gravel. Her heart started to beat faster.

“Stay here!”

Sam was already pulling on her pants.
